Book Summery:
Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she’s an Elder but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she’s betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and she doesn’t even know his name.
Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky Southern girl and to fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is and not what she’ll be.
As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head or her heart win the battle?
My Thoughts:
When I first found out I needed to read this book before the blog tour for Bound by Spells, I looked at the amount of pages and I panicked a bit. Thinking there was no way I could read both books in three days. Boy was I wrong! Once I started reading Bound by Duty, I was hooked and read the whole book in a day. I just could not put it down and it was such a quick and easy read.
Amelia has left her family and begun college, where she wants to be a normal college student. The only problem is that she is not a normal college student; instead she is a very important Mage, Mages and immortal beings that have different powers. She also is arranged to marry the prince, but when she falls in love she is faced with a huge choice, while still learning how to manage her powers.
In the beginning I thought I was going to get confused since some Mages (immortals) had different eye colors. I thought they would have different powers, I’m still not too sure if they do or not, so I began making lists and taking notes. After reading I decided that Ms. Smith does a great job writing that I never really found myself confused.
It was quite interesting seeing how Amelia’s powers are triggered and feeling she gets around certain people. She also has such great relationships with her brother and friends. There was one person in the book I kind of questioned and I was very surprised that I was right on the money with him. Even though I guessed a couple things in the book, I was very surprised by others and I cannot wait to read the second book!!
