b2413-synopsis

Chayse McCade learned along time ago that the only person she can depend on, both on and off the motocross track, is herself. Her parents disappointed her on more than one occasion and every relationship she’s ever had—platonic, professional, or romantic—has ended in disaster. When a sponsorship offer from Throttled Energy comes along she worries that it’s too good to be true. Especially when she meets the know-it-all riding coach they are insisting she work with.
Hoyt Travers is a lot of things. Level headed, discerning, intelligent, patient, or so he thought. That is until his new riding student rolled into his life. She’s wild, unpredictable, and gorgeous—all of which she uses to get under his skin in every possible way.
The two of them have undeniable, explosive chemistry that threatens to burn both of their dreams to the ground. Once Chayse let’s Hoyt in, she can’t seem to keep her protective walls up anymore. Too bad there’s a hard rule about them being anything more than colleagues. Hoyt never steps outside the lines but Chayse will push him in more ways than one. Lines will be irrevocably blurred in the final installment of the Wild Riders series.

“I don’t know, Hoyt,” I replied, matching the asshole-ish tone he’d just used on me. “Maybe because I like taking the turns high. I feel more in control on the top.”

The second I said it, I imagined myself taking control of the wound-tight man sitting in front of me. His eyes widened as if he were picturing something similar to the sexy scenario playing out in my head. I wanted to step over to the chair he was sitting in and slip onto his lap. I’d take those glasses he wore when we were watching films and toss them across the room. Or, maybe I’d leave them on. I wanted to make sure he saw exactly how capable I was. Sure, Hoyt was attractive in that thinks-he-knows-what’s-best-for-you kind of way, but I honestly hadn’t thought much about it as of late. Now though, all I wanted to do was find out what it would be like to catch him off guard. I wanted to wrap my arms around his neck and shut him up with my tongue. I wanted to show him that I was capable of many things, on and off the track. “Is that really that big of a damn deal?” I asked, letting my eyes narrow in on his.

“You’re impossible,” he said, abruptly standing. “Why am I even here if you aren’t even going to try and make this work? You want to go ride your new bike… go,” he snapped, nodding his head toward the door. “I’m over it.”

This is exactly what happens when I try to do right. I’d been a model riding student. Working out all the time. Watching everything he turned on in front of me. Riding the track the way he wanted me to. Not to mention… no drinking. No bad food. No sex. That was where I went wrong. I’d given up all my vices at once, trying to prove that I wanted this sponsorship and now I was standing there contemplating jumping the one guy that seemed pissed off at me daily. I needed to get out of this place, get a drink, and get laid. In that order.

He was over it? Well that made two of us. He’d just forced me to watch a video with my father in it and stirred up a bunch of shit I’d buried long ago. Not to mention, all I wanted to do was get on my dirt bike and he was hell-bent on keeping me from it.

“I’m not sure exactly what has your panties in such a twist today,” I bit out, standing up to face him. “All I’ve done is exactly what you’ve told me to. The past week I’ve been on time, I’ve done every workout, I’ve watched every film. Even the ones of my deadbeat dad, thank you very fucking much for that, by the way. All I asked was how much longer you planned on making me watch other people ride when that’s exactly what I should be doing. Riding.”

I could see the remorse in his eyes but his stubborn stance remained. “Oh, you’re a coach now?”

“I don’t know. Are you?” I couldn’t stop the words if I’d wanted to. This guy had been pushing my buttons and I’d had enough. I felt my nails bite into my skin as my hands balled into fists at my side. “You helped your brother. Big deal. You’ve got about as much experience coaching as I do.”

He shook his head and huffed out a breath.

“If I was coaching a rider, I sure as shit wouldn’t expect the person I was hired to help to sit on her ass all afternoon and waste daylight. The whole point of a riding coach is to be a coach while riding. Why that’s such a hard concept for you to understand, I’m not sure.”

“Oh I understand the concept, sweetheart,” he assured me, pushing the chair that was separating us to the side. I felt my chest heave with the effort of taking in oxygen when he stepped toward me. His eyes looked like laser beams about to cut completely through me. “The problem is, the second you fire up your bike, you stop listening. You stop paying attention to the words that are coming out of my mouth. At least in here, sitting on your ass, you’re paying attention.” He reached up and tapped my forehead with his finger. “If you could get your brain to stop pretending that it knows everything then maybe I’d be more inclined to let you ride.”

I fought back a laugh. A laugh that was brought on by the fact that I was so utterly pissed at him that my only option was to laugh, cry, or punch him in the face. I never pretended to know it all. I never even pretended to know half of it.

“Well, maybe if you’d get this,” I reached up between us and tapped my finger against his forehead the same way he’d done to me. “Out of your ass and actually acted like a coach instead of a drill instructor, I’d be more inclined to listen.”

He didn’t move. He didn’t even flinch. He stood there with his jaw clenched and his eyes still locked on mine. I’d expected him to say something. To argue that I was wrong. Hell, a tiny little part of me actually even thought he might apologize. Instead, he did nothing.

Glaring and breathing—that was all we were both capable of at that particular moment.

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany… I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

My Thoughts:

Never Tear Us a Part was a very interesting read. The plot was something that hasn’t been done a lot in the past or I haven’t read many of them. Either way I loved reading something with a different kind of plot.

During the entire story Ethan and Katie’s POV changed from then to now. I really enjoyed seeing the connection they had when they were younger and the growing one they have when they are older. It was also good to see what life was like for them in the past.

I did think that Ethan should have told Katie who he was sooner. I was waiting a while for it. I was a little stalkerish on how he followed her for a lot of them book, even though his heart was in the right past. He just felt a need and connection to Katie and her him.

I cannot wait to read book two in this series!

But as things begin to heat up between them, Austin realizes that he wants Harper for more than just a quick fix.Harper Bell is perfectly content as a second grade teacher in the small town of Jessamine—until she meets the one man who makes her question her lack of social life. Austin’s been using her.

Now Austin has to execute the perfect play to win back the girl of his dreams. Or will Harper bench him permanently?

My Thoughts:

Another perfect Larson Brothers novel! Each time I meet a new brother I have an even harder time finding a favorite, they are all so wonderful. I’m always happy to see the brother from pervious books returning in the new ones, I love seeing what they are up to. This time our male character, Austin is younger than Harper, I like that Ms. Valentine decided to show its okay for a female to be older than the male in a relationship. Although, it took a little bit of time for Harper to be okay with the age difference and the fact that she was older.

Just like the rest of the books in this series, Love so Perfect was a short yet sweet read, that you are able to read in one or two sittings. I know I like books like that for a rainy or snowy day! Each of these books can be read as stand alones and this one was no different. Even though they can be read as stand alones, I still suggest reading them all!!

I cannot wait to see what Lawson brother is up next! I have a feeling we will get to learn more about Caleb, and I truly hope so!

Book Description:
Meet Roman Smith: Shopkeeper by Day. Assassin by Night.

She’s completely unaware of his double life, but has been marked as next on the kill list should he fail. Only, what The Bratva doesn’t know—there’s nothing Roman won’t do to keep Everly safe. Drugged and deposited in a hotel in Prague, Roman must be on guard at all times in order to protect Everly, but the countdown has begun, and it won’t stop until his next target, or Everly, is terminated. Can Roman protect Everly until he can eliminate the threat to her life?
**Formerly The Request Series. Prime Target includes all three books from The Request Series.
Book Review:

Prime Target was a fast-paced suspenseful book about Roman, an assassin pretending to be a bookstore owner. Roman also has one customer that he has grown attached to even though he doesn’t want to. Everly, reciprocates his feelings, but Roman has a hard time acting upon them. When they finally have a night together Roman’s fears come true and he will do anything to protect Everly.

I really enjoyed reading Roman and Everly’s story; I felt the chemistry from the very beginning. Since this book was short, we didn’t get much of a backstory, it was more the here and now. Childhoods weren’t spoken about and I really didn’t know much about Everly. At the end not having the backstory made something parts a little confusing, but still enjoyable. Prime Target was also told in duel POV, but we only get Everly’s POV in two chapters, the majority was Roman, which I really enjoyed!

Marquita Valentine never lets me down and I can’t wait to read book two!

Excerpt

I look at the guy leaning against the vehicle. He’s wearing flip flops. His tanned complexion gleams against the warm sun’s rays. He’s wearing light, blue washed shorts with fashionable rips.

His jaws are clenched, his body hard. He’s shirtless…very shirtless. Air trickles out of my mouth as I exhale in awe. My heart beat slows down and the light, warm wind moves the tiny hairs on my skin.

The gravel beneath him crunches and rumbles as he slowly walks toward me. He smirks at me. His chocolate eyes are mouthwatering.

I feel a presence around us as the air between our bodies stiffened. Hollister cologne slithers up into my nostrils. My nose flares as he touches me underneath my chin with the tip of his thumb. He leans over me and whispers into my ear.

“You’re staring again, Miss Swift,” he says, his voice rough and raspy. I shudder. Goose bumps pop on my skin, traveling down from my ear onto my lower back.

He must be rich if he has both a motorcycle and a car. I can’t believe Eric is in front of me and not Dawn. How does he even know where I live?

My lips part slowly. I say, “I—I’m sorry.”

He slides his hand down my arm. I grip the strap of my beach bag because I’m nervous. He eventually finds my fingers and gently loosens the grip. While he continues to stare into my eyes, I see their light green reflection through his.

“I didn’t say I didn’t like it,” he replies. He grabs my beach bag and interrupts my daze. My eyes flutter up to his face. He was so close to me…The nerves in my body tickle against my skin.

His muscular chest rises as he breathes, and the veins along his slim arms are visible. I glance down at my beach bag.

“Where’s, uh, Dawn?” I manage to say, looking around. I purse my lips and pull out my cellphone to shoot her a text, but he grabs my phone and places it in his pocket.

“Don’t worry about it,” he says under his breath, grinning.

by Mila Gray

Publisher: Simon Pulse

Release Date: December 8th 2015

Genre: Young Adult, New Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Drama, War, Fiction, Death

Rate: 4 Stars

Synopsis:
In this heart-wrenching tale of love and loss, a young Marine and his best friend’s sister plunge into a forbidden love affair while he’s home on leave.
When a Marine Chaplain knocks on her door, Jessa’s heart breaks—someone she loves is dead. Killed in action, but is it Riley or Kit? Her brother or her boyfriend…
Three months earlier, Marine Kit Ryan finds himself back home on leave and dangerously drawn to his best friend Riley’s sister, Jessa—the one girl he can’t have. Exhausted from fighting his feelings, Kit finally gives in, and Jessa isn’t strong enough to resist diving headfirst into a passionate relationship.
But what was just supposed to be a summer romance develops into something far greater than either of them expected. Jessa’s finally found the man of her dreams and Kit’s finally discovered there’s someone he’d sacrifice everything for.
When it’s time for Kit to redeploy, neither one is ready to say goodbye. Jessa vows to wait for him and Kit promises to come home to her. No matter what.
But as Jessa stands waiting for the Marine Chaplain to break her heart, she can’t help but feel that Kit has broken his promise…

Riley or Kit? Kit or Riley? Her brother or her boyfriend? Who’s coming home to her?

Come back to me was an emotional story about Jessa, who is in love with her brother’s best friend. It takes us through their love story from beginning to end.

This story did give me chance to reel in my emotions from the start. The prologue was just as emotional as the rest of the book. After reading it, I knew I was in for a ride.

I don’t read a lot of forbidden love stories, but this one was great. I loved all the stolen moments and their secret get togethers. There was so much to Jessa and Kit’s story, and reasons why people don’t want them together, but their love was so strong.

Kit was great and I can see readers falling in love with him just like Jessa did. There was something about him that was so sweet, even if others didn’t see it. Also, I think Jessa turned out to be a very strong character; she had gone through a lot and got stronger with each obstacle she was faced with.

I also liked how PSD was introduced and spoken about. Jessa and Riley’s father has his issues, which he has never worked out, making him emotionally abusive. It was also interesting to see how things changed with Riley and Kit once one of them came back from the war.

I know if I keep talking about this book I will give away major events, so I will leave you with this, I am so glad I was given a chance to read this story, and can not wait to read more from this author.

Jessa

A whorl in the glass distorts the picture, like a thumbprint smear over a lens. I’m halfway down the stairs, gathering my hair into a ponytail, thoughts a million miles away, when a blur outside the window pulls me up short.

I take another step, the view clears, and when I realize what I’m seeing, who I’m seeing, my stomach plummets and the air leaves my lungs like a final exhalation. My arms fall slowly to my sides. My body’s instinct is to turn and run back upstairs, to tear into the bathroom and lock the door, but I’m frozen. This is the moment you have nightmares about, play over in your mind, the darkest of daydreams, furnished by movies and by real-life stories you’ve overheard your whole life.

You imagine over and over how you’ll cope, what you’ll say, how you’ll act when you open the door and find them standing there. You pray to every god you can dream up that this moment won’t ever happen. You make bargains, promises, desperate barters. And you live each day with the murmur of those prayers playing on a loop in the background of your mind, an endless chant. And then the moment happens and you realize it was all for nothing. The prayers went unheard. There was no bargain to make. Was it your fault? Did you fail to keep your promise?

Time seems to have slowed. Kit’s father hasn’t moved. He’s standing at the end of the driveway staring up at the house, squinting against the early morning glare. He’s wearing his Dress Blues. It’s that fact which registered before all else, which told me all I needed to know. That and the fact that he’s here at all. Kit’s father has never once been to the house. There is only one reason why he would ever come.

He hasn’t taken a step and I will him not to. I will him to turn around and get back into the dark sedan car sitting at the kerb. A shadowy figure in uniform sits at the wheel. Please. Get back in and drive away. I start making futile bargains with some nameless god. If he gets back in the car and drives away, I’ll do anything. But he doesn’t. He takes a step down the driveway towards the house, and that’s when I know for certain that either Riley or Kit is dead.

A scream, or maybe a sob, tries to struggle up my throat, but it’s blocked by a solid wave of nausea. I grab for the banister to stay upright. Who? Which one? My brother or my boyfriend? Oh God. Oh God. My legs are shaking. I watch Kit’s father walk slowly up the drive, head bowed.

Memories, images, words, flicker through my mind like scratched fragments of film: Kit’s arms around my waist drawing me closer, our first kiss under the cover of darkness just by the back door, the smile on his face the first time we slept together, the blue of his eyes lit up by the sparks from a Chinese lantern, the fierceness in his voice when he told me he was going to love me forever.

Come back to me. That was the very last thing I said to him. Come back to me.

Always. The very last thing he said to me.

Then I see Riley as a kid throwing a toy train down the stairs, dive-bombing into the pool, holding my hand at our grandfather’s funeral, grinning and high-fiving Kit after they’d enlisted. The snapshot of him in his uniform on graduation day. The circles under his eyes the last time I saw him.

The door buzzes. I jump. But I stay where I am, frozen halfway up the stairs. If I don’t answer the door maybe he’ll go away. Maybe this won’t be happening. But the doorbell sounds again. And then I hear footsteps on the landing above me. My mother’s voice, sleepy and confused. ‘Jessa? Who is it? Why are you just standing there?’

Then she sees. She peers through the window and I hear the intake of air, the ragged ‘no’ she utters in response. She too knows that a military car parked outside the house at seven a.m. can signify only one thing.

I turn to her. Her hand is pressed to her mouth. Standing in her nightdress, her hair unbrushed, the blood rushing from her face, she looks like she’s seen a ghost. No. That’s wrong. She looks like she is a ghost.

The bell buzzes for a third time.

‘Get the door, Jessa,’ my mother says in a strange voice I don’t recognize. It startles me enough that I start to walk down the stairs. I feel calmer all of a sudden, like I’m floating outside my body. This can’t be happening. It’s not real. It’s just a dream.

I find myself standing somehow in front of the door. I unlock it. I open it. Kit. Riley. Kit. Riley. Their names circle my mind like birds of prey in a cloudless blue sky. Kit. Riley. Which is it? Is Kit’s father here in his Dress Blues with his Chaplain insignia to tell us that my brother has been killed in action or that his son – my boyfriend – has been killed in action? He would come either way. He would want to be the one to tell me. He would want to be the one to tell my mom.

Kit’s father blinks at me. He’s been crying. His eyes are red, his cheeks wet. He’s still crying, in fact. I watch the tears slide down his face and realize that I’ve never seen him cry before. It automatically makes me want to comfort him, but even if I could find the words my throat is so dry I couldn’t speak them.

‘Jessa,’ Kit’s father says in a husky voice.

I hold onto the doorframe, keeping my back straight. I’m aware that my mother has followed me down the stairs and is standing right behind me. Kit’s father glances at her over my shoulder. He takes a deep breath, lifts his chin and removes his hat before his eyes flicker back to me.

‘I’m sorry,’ he says.

‘Who?’ I hear myself ask. ‘Who is it?’

A man out for revenge…
When Alexander Volkow
raced into Crossroads, Alabama and bought up half of Broad Street, the entire
town questioned his motives, but he didn’t care. He did it for one reason and
only one reason — to find the man who went AWOL from the military with his brother,
Kon. Knowing Kon, something is terribly wrong, and Alex is set on retribution.
But when all roads lead to
the town’s favorite daughter, who just happens to be the missing man’s fiancée,
Alex can’t help but be mesmerized by her alluring southern charm and sexy
little snort.
A woman searching for a
way out…
No amount of bartending,
snake charming, or organic cotton growing can stop the fear blooming inside
Polly Anna Coots. She knows if her MIA fiancée is found alive, he’ll want to
follow through with their marriage plans, but she has had a change of heart —
and not just because of the new man she can’t get out of her head. If her
fiancée returns and she reneges on their future, she’ll end up DOA.
When one of Polly Anna’s
snakes runs Alex off the road, sparks fly, and the two embark on a steamy
collision course in a small town filled with secrets that add fuel to the
smoldering fire.
Can either one of them get
just close enough to acquire what they need from the other without falling in
love?
*Can be read as a stand
alone.
