Sizzling Saturday: Getting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen

We’re excited for the release of Getting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen!
Title: Getting Lucky Number Seven
Author: Cindi Madsen
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Amazon | B&N | iTunes | Kobo
Blurb:

What’s your lucky number?Lyla Wilder is done being the shy, chemistry nerd extraordinaire. While every other college student it out having fun, Lyla is studying. With her cat. Well, she’s played it “safe” quite enough, thank you. So she creates a “College Bucket List”―with item #7 being a night of uninhibited, mind-blowing sex…

But she needs some help from her man-whore best friend.Hockey player Beck Davenport thought Lyla’s transformation would be subtle. Man, was he wrong. With every item she ticks off, Beck finds himself growing seriously hot for his sweet, brainiac best friend. And if he’s not careful, he’ll end up risking their friendship in order to convince Lyla that he might just be her lucky #7…

My Thoughts:

Getting Lucky Number Seven had me hooked from the very first page. There are plenty of best friends to lovers books out there, but this was one of my tops. I also thought it was a lot easier for Beck and Lyla turn their relationship into something more because they haven’t known each other for that long, but I did love the relationship they had together. I also thought their Sunday night tradition was adorable.

They say opposites attract and they did in this book. Lyla was the nerdy chemistry major, who was tried of being just that. Who was a bit obsessed and love telling science jokes (Those ever great and had me laugh through out the book). Beck on the other hand was a good-looking hockey player who is smarter than he look, like they say, “Never judge a book by its cover”.

This story wasn’t only about Beck and Lyla’s relationship but it also had a bit a family issues. It was very interesting to see Beck’s family dynamic everything he is responsible for. Even though there wasn’t a lot about his family, I liked the way the author integrated the bit that there was.

Again, I really enjoyed reading this book and its not surprise because I tend to never be disappointed by Entangled Bliss novels.

Sizzling Saturdays: The Australian by Lesley Young

The Australian (Crime Royalty Romance, #2)

Title- The Australian

Author- Lesley Young

Publisher- L.A.Y. Books

Release Date- April 15, 2015

Amazon-   http://goo.gl/Emnyld

Book Summery:

Imagine leaving behind all that you know and starting over halfway around the world. Imagine you’ve got no gut instinct to rely on, no natural-born ability to read people or sort out lies from truth. Imagine your heart goes haywire every time you stare into a certain pair of deeply mesmerizing dark eyes. Now you’re in Charlie Sykes’ (highly sensible) shoes . . .

Charlie Sykes takes everything and everyone at face value, and believes life would be a lot easier if everyone else did, too. Jace Knight, international Aussie hotelier and purported playboy, has never met anyone like the absurdly literal and obliviously beautiful American who applies to his personal assistant position.

The trouble is, how do you seduce a woman whose definition of flirting comes straight out of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? That, and he’s not the only one after Charlie. Seems Mr. Knight may not be a reformed criminal after all.

Charlie soon finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of dangerous international espionage that takes her from the hip streets of Sydney to the majestic Great Barrier Reef and the wild, desolate outback. A terrible trap’s being laid, but how will Charlie protect herself and prevent a devastating betrayal when she can’t even sort out what her heart’s telling her?

My Thoughts:

After Charlie’s mother passes, she wants a fresh start and moving to Australia to exactly that. Once she is there she is having trouble finding a job that is until she is sent by a temp agency to Mr. Knight. It was definitely her bluntness that got her the job. Once she begins working for Mr. Knight she cannot help the attraction she feels and allows herself to act on her attraction.

Between the romance and mystery in this book, I could not put it down. It took me a little while to get use to how Charlie spoke, but after I did, I adored her. She was easy to relate to and very easy to like. Then there’s Jace (Mr. Knight), he was VERY easy to like. I mean who doesn’t love an Australian main character?!??! I love the mystery about him, is he really in a gang or is he trying to make a new name for himself?

One thing is I had to keep looking up some of the Australian slang in the book. Even though I had to do that I loved that Lesley Young integrated all of the culture into the book, just like she did in The Frenchman.

I cannot wait to see what culture Lesley Young will write about next.

Book Review: Love So Irresistible by Marquita Valentine

Book Summery:

All former Navy SEAL Mason Lawson craves is solitude. Unfortunately, his new neighbor won’t allow him the peace he so desperately needs. Between the traffic and the music, Mason is constantly on edge—not exactly what the doctor ordered for someone recovering from a bullet to the leg. However, when he finally has enough and confronts his neighbor, nothing can prepare him for how hot he’d get for the teacher next door.

Piano teacher, Skylar Jernigan, loves everything about the town of Jessamine—from the quaint Main Street shops to the people who own them. Unfortunately, once she’s chewed up and spit out by her sexy neighbor, Skylar begins to question her decision to move to a new town. Until, that is, she learns he’s suffering from a war wound and refuses to have anything to do with his family.

Now, Skylar is determined to help Mason recover—mentally, physically and socially—until he turns the tables and sets out to seduce Skylar right out of her meddling ways. Only seduction turns into something more and soon, Mason can’t stop looking for excuses to be with her. But when the Navy wants Mason to reenlist for a dangerous mission, will Skylar be too irresistible for him to leave?

My Thoughts

Mason Lawson is grumpy ex Seal, who cant stand the noise his neighbor makes. Skylar lives next door to Mason and gives music lessons to children at her house. When an incident brings Skylar and Mason together, their lives change.

I REALLY liked this characters, I think I liked them as much as I liked Sydney and Brody. Skylar just wanted to help Mason out and be there for him since he has pushed everyone in his family away. Mason was likable too, after you get pass the grumpiness there’s a whole other underneath. Also the McCoy sisters were up to their match making skills again, this time it was just Lemon!

Ms. Valentine’s writing is so easy and enjoyable to read, that you forget about the world around you! I love that I can pick up a book and know that I can it enjoy it.

Anyone who has read the first two books will love this one as well. Another Great thing is that you do not need to read them to enjoy this book, it can be read as a stand alone! I have been waiting since the first book to read about Lemon and Tristan’s story so I cannot wait for Love So Tempting to come out!!!!

Title- 10 years

Author- Bethany Lopez

BOOK SUMMERY:

A lot can happen in 10 years, and Gwen and Craig have been there for each other through it all, from meeting on the playground to juggling college finals. But their long-standing friendship hasn’t been without its challenges.

Gwen keeps her emotions locked down tight, and when someone hurts her, she shuts down and shuts them out. Craig has always been her hero, but when one night leaves her broken, she realizes he has the power to hurt her the most.

Unable to get past Gwen’s emotional barriers, Craig focuses on baseball and reaching for his dreams, but he misses his best friend. He wonders if he’ll ever have the same relationship he did with the girl he met ten years ago.

When the barriers finally come down and their true feelings are revealed, will they finally become the couple everyone says they’re destined to be, or will the darkness from Gwen’s past tear them apart forever?

*Warning* This book contains some scenes that may be hard to read. This story is meant for readers 18 and older.

MY THOUGHTS:

“ I had no idea how much she was going to mean to me, and how close I’d come to losing her forever.”

10 years is about Gwen and Craig, they met 10 years ago while hanging out with their siblings and had been best friends ever since. That is until something happens and Gwen shuts herself down, until she is forced to figure out her feels they cannot be friends or so she thinks.

This is the first book in the Time for Love series that I have read and after reading it I know want to go and read the rest, to learn about all the characters I met in this book. This book was wonderfully written and I could not put it down. Thankfully it was a short read that I was able to read it in one sitting. I think the length of the book was just perfect; it wasn’t too short or too long.

This was such a great group of friends and I wish I read the previous books so I could have known more about them. They seemed to all care so much about each other, family by choice and not by blood (well some of them by blood).

Now let me get to Gwen and Craig! They were both so perfect. I understand where Gwen is coming from by shutting down the way she does. It all stems from one thing in her past and I am so glad it was mentioned in the book, even though it was before Craig and Gwen met. Also it was so adorable how they met and young Craig was such a little charmer! Craig had such a huge heart and never understood why Gwen shut him out when all he wanted to do was be there for her.

There are some scenes in this book where I would say that this is for mature young adult readers. With that warning I would completely recommend this book to them and any New Adult fans!

BOOK SUMMERY:

Pre-med student Sarah Jones is back in Beaver, Alaska, for summer vacation. A loyal member of the Gwich’in tribe, she accepts the rules set by her father, the leader of their small town. Raised in a strict household, she learned early on to do what is expected of her and has agreed to an arranged marriage. Despite her reluctance to marry without love, Sarah is unwilling to defy her father’s wishes. She hopes to help usher in an era of independence and stability for the town, but for now, her focus is finishing med school so she can become Beaver’s resident doctor. Business owner Greg Andrews wants to escape his philandering wife and his life in general. Leaving New York City to join a hunting expedition in Alaska, Greg’s plans are turned upside down when he is shot on Gwich’in land and ends up on Sarah’s operating table. In the absence of a qualified doctor, Sarah must operate to save his life. She refuses to wait for the consent of their tribal leader, and her father banishes her from the tribal land in punishment. Grateful for his life, Greg concocts a scheme to help. Plagued by the side effects of her unconventional operation, he convinces Sarah to become his live-in nurse. Without the means to support herself, Sarah agrees to the questionable arrangement, but she soon finds herself in even more trouble. Her new problem is that she is falling in love with this infuriating man, and the choices she now must make are much more difficult than the simple act of saving a man’s life. Together, Sarah and Greg must both decide whether they can overcome the vast differences between them, or if the indivisible line that separates their worlds will ultimately pull them apart.

MY THOUGHTS

“She was stuck living with their stifling traditions out of a deep sense of loyalty and obligations. So, she’d curbed her dreams of leaving town and had resigned herself to spending her life serving her people”

Sarah is home in Beaver for summer vacation, where life is a bit different from the one she is living in LA at medical school. In Beaver, they still live by old traditions including; arranged marriages, working throughout the town where tourist sometimes come to hunt, and they trade to produce income at times.

While Sarah is home her job is to help run the medical clinic, which is never eventful. That is until Sarah is brought a gunshot victim, Greg. She now must decide whether to do what is right or do what the tribe expects her to do, since Greg is a “white man”.

Once Sarah and Greg part ways they both cannot get each other off their minds and it’s not until they meet again does their story really begin.

Sarah was such a strong character; she stood up for herself many times for herself against many people. Her love story with Greg was great as well; I really was rooting for them the whole time. Of course this would be a story without people challenging their relationship and very much hated characters. There were plenty of characters that I did not like at all and some that I loved!

Lorenz Font always does a great job developing a story line and characters that just pulls at your heart strings!

Sizzling Saturdays: His Last Redemption by Clarissa Yip

His Last Redemption

Title- His Last Redemption

Author- Clarissa Yip

Release Date- March 10, 2015

BOOK SUMMERY:

First comes marriage. Then comes murder…

Lauren Burke waited fifteen months and twenty-three days for her divorce to be finalized. Instead, her ex-husband went one step further—he turned up dead. And the detective working on the case is none other than Kane Hollister—the man who ran off over three years ago and shattered Lauren’s heart into a zillion pieces…

It looks like Lauren, but she’s no longer the carefree girl Kane once knew. And yet he can’t deny the awareness that heats his blood at the sight of her. But when the death threats begin, Kane realizes that the killer has a new target…and it’s Lauren. Now he must protect the woman he’s always loved—and always hurt—from a vicious murderer. And when the sparks between them ignite, Lauren will have to make a choice between her life… or her heart!

MY THOUGHTS:

His Last Redemption was a second chance suspenseful romance. I like a little mystery in the books that I read from time to time, and that is what drew me to this book. I think that is what kept me reading this book as well; I wanted to know who the Pearl Killer was. Yes, there is a story line other than that, but I wasn’t a fan of it as much.

There was something about Lauren that made me annoyed. I’m not sure if it was because it too her three years to leave a man that was cheating on her while she was giving him money to build his company or hot/coldness towards Kane. Both Kane and Lauren opened up to each other to allow themselves to be happy.

This was a very quick read as well and I think that it can be made into a series if the author chooses to write a book about another one of the characters. I can see a book about Ryan or even about Lauren. I thought Ryan was funny and I think his book would be great.

BOOK SUMMERY:

Spencer Hightower’s job is cleaning up other people’s messes. And she is damn good at it. Unfortunately, being a supremely organized workaholic, she doesn’t always easily meet guys—until Liam Connelly shows up, all high-powered and really, really sexy. Sure, he makes Spencer’s pulse thump…but he’s also the biggest pain in her professional life. Liam can’t believe his lousy luck when he learns that Spencer is his opposition in a high-profile scandal. She’s the best at what she does and the worst possible opponent. Of course, a little professional animosity can’t hurt a guy’s chances for a date, can it? Even as Spencer tries to keep her distance, their attraction grows stronger…and hotter. But once they cross all kinds of professional—and personal—boundaries, the situation snowballs into a disaster that even the great Spencer Hightower can’t fix…

MY THOUGHTS:

This year I have lucky enough to read so many 4/5 star book and Know When to Hold Him was no different. This was the first book that I have read by Lindsey Emory and I will be looking for more books by her in the future. The two things about this book that I want to talk about are the characters and the plot.

Both Liam and Spencer were strong characters, they knew what they wanted and would fight to get it, never backing down. I like how they challenged each other and in the end opening themselves up and let another person into their hearts. There was such competition between the two of them and they tried so hard not to start a relationship and when they did they tried not to let business get in the way of their personal relationship.

A lot of times I get tired when a book has a story like that revolve around sex scenes; instead I like a story that has a plot with a couple sex scenes inside. I feel as though a plot makes a story and that’s what this book has, a plot. Don’t get me wrong there are times where that the exact book I am looking for, but not always. I also was completely shocked at something that had happened; I was expecting the book to go another way. It’s always wonderful to read a story and not know exactly what is going to happen next.

~~EXCERPT~~

Wayne Grossman woke up at 6:30 a.m. to the sound of silence. He lay in bed for several minutes, wondering if, now that he was retired, perhaps something was wrong with his hearing. Had he gone deaf overnight? Just then a distant siren wailed to confirm that his hearing was not faulty.

He sat on the edge of the bed to contemplate this odd development. Usually his wife was preparing breakfast by now, but there was no breakfast odor, no clatter of dishes in the kitchen.

He became aware of Helen lying on her side, facing him, one arm outside the blanket. It appeared as though she was fast asleep but there was no color in her face, no rise and fall of breathing.The-Penthouse-Hi-Res-Cover

Wayne sat there for some time, wondering what to do. Finally he said, “Helen.” When there was no response, he raised his voice a little. “Helen. Helen.” He bounced a bit on the edge of the bed. “Helen! Helen!”

When Helen still didn’t respond, he grabbed a handful of blanket and pulled. The way her arm was wrapped around the outside of the blanket caused her entire body to move with the blanket in an unnatural fashion. There was no separate movement of limbs. Helen was stiff as a board.

Wayne went into the bathroom. When he reappeared, he was freshly showered, shaved, and dressed in a dark brown suit, a white shirt, and a dark brown tie. He noted that Helen’s position hadn’t changed.

A creature of habit, Wayne went to the front door to find The Los Angeles Times. He tucked it under his arm and stepped out into his Toluca Lake neighborhood. He ate breakfast promptly at 7 each morning but since there was none waiting for him this morning, he went in search of breakfast.

Book Summery:

Amidst an ugly divorce and an even uglier scandal, Paige Kerrigan has returned to her parents’ estate to hide out until things blow over. While she’s enjoying a late-night naked swim, however, she’s shocked to find Owen Bellamy— her family’s former cute pool boy—standing poolside. Now he’s all hot, grown up, and renting the Kerrigan property…and he’s definitely not forgiven Paige for how she used to treat him.

Once, the beautiful but spoiled Paige Kerrigan was everything Owen wanted. Now she’s broke and Owen finally has his revenge…by offering her a place to stay as his housekeeper. Yet Paige isn’t the person he remembers. Instead, she’s far more than he imagined, and far more irresistible than is safe. But the last thing Owen can afford is to give his heart to the same woman who once broke it.

My Thoughts:

Did I like the book? Yes. Did I love the book? No, but I do think I pinpointed the reason why, which I will mention later.

Like all Entangled Bliss books, One Real Man was a very in a very sweet contemporary romance. There was very little drama, which I love about Bliss book! The drama was also solved very quickly. This was also a very easy read, it goes by every quickly and can be read in a night with ease.

This was also a second chance, which again I enjoy reading. Both main characters, Owen and Paige, had an extremely hard time letting go of what happened to them in the past or how they were preceded each other in the past. For some reason I could not connect to Paige, she bothered me a whole lot and I think that is why I didn’t love the book.

I also enjoyed seeing the connection Paige made to with how Owen’s sister was acting. I think that was a major turning point for both Paige and for Owen when he found out what Paige did.

Book Review:

Pretty Smart Girls was one of those books that once I started reading it, I could not put it down. There were so many parts that I absolutely loved while reading as well! All the characters had such great chemistry together and there was great banter amongst them.

I liked that the romance wasn’t love at first sight, yes there was an attraction, but Jett and Ryan worked up to figuring out their feelings. I adored the photo booth scene, it was just too perfect!!! I also liked the Jett and Ryan’s teammates’ relationships with each other.

This is a read book that will engage the reader from the very beginning. If you like shows like the apprentice you will love this book!!!!
