I first became a fan Nancy Straight when I read His Frozen Heart. I not only became a fan of Nancy, but I also became a fan Dave Brewer. Then I read Fractured Karma and became a fan Mark Brewer. I was sad to see both of their stories end. Then I was given a chance to read, Shroud of Lies by Nancy Straight!

It’s a little hard to write this review because so much happens, but there’s a chance I will give it all away it I write too much (I will try my best to leave out any spoilers!). Like all of Ms. Straight’s books, Shroud of Lies, grabbed me from the very first page. I couldn’t wait to find out who Mark and Davey’s sister was and the journey was full of surprises. I loved uncovering all mysteries with both brothers. Even though, I enjoy Mark, I missed seeing more of Davey, but this was Mark’s journey and the story focused around it.

As sad as I am to see this series go, I cannot wait to see what Nancy Straight creates next. I know it will be just as great as the rest of her stories!

Book Review

Every time I want to find a book that will take me away from everything that is going on in my life, Ophelia London is always my go to author. She writes such easy engaging reads that I never want to put down. Another benefit is that you can read them within one or two sittings, depending on the time you have to sit and read.

Wife For the Weekend was a nice easy read that I was able to read quickly. It had just the right amount of drama and just the right about of adorable times between the characters. I enjoyed reading Jules and Elliot’s story, it wasn’t so much as a second chance novel as it was two people from the past, but you could feel their chemistry from the very beginning, and you now what they say, “Opposites attract.”

I am very glad I got to read this one and I can’t wait to see what Ophelia has up her sleeve next.

Right from the very first page I was drawn into Omen Operation. The action started right away and didn’t stop until the very end. I also liked that there were so my surprises that I didn’t know what was coming next. The author also created an awesome new world.

I completely connected with each character and loved reading about each and everyone of them. They were so related about and its also ways refreshing to see a strong female character.

I think many YA readers will enjoy reading this book. I would completely recommend this to anyone who enjoys read dystopian novels.

6608a-review

I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed reading this book; it was one that I could not put down. It’s not easy to get readers to not only to connect with the main characters, but to also connect the secondly characters. I not only adored Rick and Sam, but I loved Sam’s father and her cousin Britt.

The stories plot also hooked me a lot; I really wanted to know what was going on with Rick. At first I picture him as someone who didn’t want to work, but that changed the more I got to know him. I will also admit there were a couple of time where I found myself tearing up, between Sam’s story about her mother and Rick’s story about his job.

I would highly recommend this book for any new adult romance fans, It is one I think you’ll all enjoy.

Title: Anatomy of a Player
Author: Cindi Madsen
Age: NewAdult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled
b2413-synopsis

This bad boy is about to get played…

After getting her heart broken by a player again, Whitney Porter is done with men. She’s focusing on her future career and her first assignment at the college newspaper: Posing as a sports writer for an exposé on the extra perks jocks receive. But Hudson Decker, the bad boy of the hockey team, is about to test her resolve. To keep herself from breaking her no-sex rule with the temptingly tattooed athlete, she decides to use him for a side project: Anatomy of a Player, to help Whitney—and women everywhere—spot a player, learn what makes him tick, and how to avoid falling for one.

With his life spiraling out of control, Hudson Decker’s looking for a distraction. When his teammates bet him that he can’t land the gorgeous but prickly new reporter, he accepts the challenge, boasting he’ll have her in bed by the end of the semester. But Whitney is so much more than Hudson expected, and soon enough, he’s in too deep. The last thing he needs is another complication, but staying away isn’t an option. One thing’s for certain: this girl totally throws him off his game.

6608a-review

I enjoyed reading Anatomy of a Player, I think there was a great plot and I always enjoy Cindi Madsen’s writing style. Even though I have seen this type of plot before, Cindi was able to make it fresh with a few new twists.

Even though Hudson was a “player”, I thought his character was very likable. He definitely had a side he only let Whitney see, and it was a side I really enjoyed seeing. Hudson is also a hockey player, who doesn’t love one of those?

Then there was Whitney, sometimes I enjoyed reading her POVs and sometimes I didn’t. There were times I just wanted Whitney to be herself, but I understand why she wasn’t.

I enjoyed the fact that there was a romance from the very first page and we slowly saw the feeling develop between the two main characters. It made me feel the chemistry a little more.

One thing about this book was it was a slow read and it took me a little while to get into it. Once I was into the story, I really did enjoy it.

Anatomy Player is the second story in the Taking Shots Series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

6608a-review

As much as I liked Just in Case, I like Just Close Enough even more. There were so many things I loved about this book. From the characters to the story line, there were times I was laughing, times I was angry and times I was upset. Even though I read the first book, you can read this one as a stand-alone. This book goes back to before the last one started. It was very interesting see P.M. in the book unlike the last one.

While reading Just in Case, I learned a little bit about Polly Anna, I just didn’t know what was really going on in her head. I am so glad I have learned the truth about not only her relationship with Alex, but also about her relationship with Billy, all is not what it seems. I enjoyed Polly Anna a lot she was a sweet girl but also did take any nonsense from anyone. Alex was great too! Who wouldn’t want a man with an accent sweep the off their feet.

There were also tons of twist and turns in this book too! I never knew what was going to happen next and I couldn’t wait to see.

I hope I don’t have to wait long to read Mandy and JR’s story (I hope that’s the next one).

Just in Case (Alabama Secrets Series
#1)

6608a-review

The thing about this book that interested me was all of the secrets going on in the town of Crossroads. Just in Case is the beginning of uncovering them all.

At the very beginning, I though this book was going to bored me and that it was moving too slow. I also think I thought it was moving slow because of all of the southern phrases that I wasn’t used to hearing (although, by the end I loved them all). There were so many twists and turns through out the book and what kept me reads, was that I needed to know what was in Scarlett’s mother’s suicide note. Once I found out, boy was it shocking!

I loved Scarlett, at times I just wanted her to let Revell love her, but I completely understand her hesitations. Scarlett hasn’t had the easiest life and she was such a strong person. Yes, there are times when it’s too much for her, but after a while she picks herself back up. I also love her friendship with Polly Anna. The two over them were both going through something and were able to help each other out a little bit. Then there’s Revell, the perfect southern gentleman any girl would be lucky to have. He also had a lot going on in his past and present and Scarlett was the person keeping him grounded.

As much as I loved the main characters, the secondary ones were great too. I cant wait to read Polly Anna/Alex and Mandy/JR’s stories.

Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.
Book Review:

I have loved all the books I have read from Ms. Valentine. I sadly never read Take the Fall, but that did stop me from enjoying When We Fall.

This was a story of the “good girl” falling for the “bad boy”, a lot of times that situation is over done and a boring read, but this one was the opposite. Not sure what it was all this one, but it wasn’t boring and I just couldn’t put it down!

I really liked Rowan; she was stronger than she wanted to believe she was. Standing up and fighting for what she loved was strong. I was not a fan of her parents at all! Her mother was a piece of work and always put her down. I also think her father was doing some things that would hurt Jase. Then there was Jase, at first he pissed me off on how he treated Rowan and how he felt in order to push her away, he needed to flirt with other girls. Over time though, Jase won me over.

I can’t wait to read Hunter’s story next. I think I know who it will be with!!

b2413-synopsis

He’s cute. He’s famous. And he could ruin everything…

Every member of Seconds to Juliet has a girlfriend-except for Nathan Strong. Now the band’s manager is leaning hard on “The Cute One” to play the role of the band’s heartthrob. With the band’s sales in decline, it’s up to Nathan to keep the fans’ fantasy alive.

The plan is to stage a fake relationship and a fake breakup, and then let the fans fight to be the one to mend Nathan’s broken heart. Just one problem. There’s another girl in the picture-one Nathan can’t stay away from. In private, Nathan’s stealing kisses with the band’s new opening act, Abby Curtis.

If they’re caught, no one wins. Abby will be fired, and the band might not recover the success they need to survive. But even with the pressure mounting, Nathan and Abby can’t stop themselves from stealing one more touch, one more kiss. And it’s only a matter of time before it all falls apart.

6608a-review

What a fantastic way to end a fantastic series! I’m extremely sad that it has come to an end, but delighted that it ended just how each of the other books were.

Ms. Butler did a great job telling Nathan’s story. He is known as the “cute one”, but now that he’s the last single one in the band, his manger is putting a lot of responsibility on him. He’s willing to go along with everything that is until he meets Abby. Abby is a sweet girl who loved to sing, but she doesn’t have the experience. After meeting Nathan and winning the opening act spot on tour, Abby begins to flourish.

I do have to talk about Abby’s audition song, its one of my favorites! It had me listening to Cristina Perri for the next week on repeat. I thought A Thousand Years was a great choice to win over our favorite Seconds to Juliet Boys.

Just like the first four books, this was an easy read that is hard to put down. It was also a very sweet one. Abby and Nathan had such great chemistry and it was a joy to read their story.

b2413-synopsis

He’s sweet trouble…

Natalie Holden wants three things: To be the best chocolate chemist in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to prove her chocolate recipe can help teenage depression, and to get over gorgeous Luke Elliott, the guy she’s had a crush on since birth. Unfortunately, he’s the microbiologist set to debunk her chocolate study. And, of course, he looks more delicious than ever!
Luke Elliott is still bitter over his divorce. Work is his passion now, and landing a huge promotion is just what he needs. What he doesn’t need is a crackpot trying to prove that chocolate cures depression. The last thing he expects is for the crackpot to be Natalie Holden—his “what if” girl from high school—or that she’d still tempt the hell out of him.

They may not see eye-to-eye on her project, but they can’t deny the explosive chemistry that keeps pulling them together. Even when it risks their jobs and the very different futures they both want…

6608a-review

I always enjoy reading Ophelia London’s books and I have read numerous ones. She has a way of engaging me from the very first page to the very last!

Kissing Her Crush is the second book in the Sugar City Series; in this book we meet Natalie, whose friends with the heroine, Sharona, from the first book. Natalie is a chocolate chemist who wants to help teenagers with their depressions and she thinks she’s found something to help. The only thing standing in her way is a man named Luke. Years ago Luke stole her heart and now he’s back and might be responsible for shutting down her plans to help her brother and other teenagers with depression.

I really enjoyed this story, like most of Ms. London’s and Bliss books this was a fun and lighthearted read that makes the reader smile the whole way through. The characters were great and I know I want to know more about some of them (maybe a book 3?). I enjoyed all the banter between Natalie and Luke. I also enjoyed the moments with Natalie and her family.

If you are looking for a fun quick read, than this is a great one for you!

Laura Kinkaid’s
glamorous Hollywood life is falling apart. After years of reality television
stardom beginning in high school on Laguna Nights, her career and relationship
with her long-term boyfriend Scott are fizzling out. Laura decides to go home
to Laguna Beach for the weekend to attend a baby shower for her high school
friend. That decision – and a car accident – will lead her to a new future, if
she’s ready to take a chance at love.

Paul Dorn’s former
life in New York City is far behind him and he’s working in a popular Laguna
Beach surf shop when fate brings the most beautiful woman he’s ever met into
his life. The attraction is instant and he has an overwhelming desire to
protect her. While Paul’s retail sales career is a short-term job for market
research purposes, his focus on Laura is long-term.

Will Laura allow a
handsome stranger to help her create a future unlike her past, or will the
bright lights of Hollywood pull her back to LA?
 Review:

I am really enjoining the Laguna Beach Series. Each book has a cast of interesting characters that are fun to read. I also love seeing characters from pervious books in the current book I’m reading. Even though previous characters are within the story, you can read each of these books as a stand-alone.

Laura was just dumped by her boyfriend of many years, Scott. She is completely heartbroken and decides to go back to Laguna Beach, her hometown, for Annie’s baby shower. While there she gets into a car accident, which leads her to Paul.

From the first book in the series, I didn’t think I would like Laura’s book when it came out. I’m glad that she grew on me during this book, which I did enjoy reading. Laura changed a lot during this book and it was great seeing it. I also loved Paul; he was such an amazing guy! There was a little drama that talk about with out giving away some things.

I can not wait to see if their will be a forth book in this series, maybe Scott’s story?
