A man out for revenge…

When Alexander Volkow raced into Crossroads, Alabama and bought up half of Broad Street, the entire town questioned his motives, but he didn’t care. He did it for one reason and only one reason — to find the man who went AWOL from the military with his brother, Kon. Knowing Kon, something is terribly wrong, and Alex is set on retribution.

But when all roads lead to the town’s favorite daughter, who just happens to be the missing man’s fiancée, Alex can’t help but be mesmerized by her alluring southern charm and sexy little snort.

A woman searching for a way out…

No amount of bartending, snake charming, or organic cotton growing can stop the fear blooming inside Polly Anna Coots. She knows if her MIA fiancée is found alive, he’ll want to follow through with their marriage plans, but she has had a change of heart — and not just because of the new man she can’t get out of her head. If her fiancée returns and she reneges on their future, she’ll end up DOA.

When one of Polly Anna’s snakes runs Alex off the road, sparks fly, and the two embark on a steamy collision course in a small town filled with secrets that add fuel to the smoldering fire.

Can either one of them get just close enough to acquire what they need from the other without falling in love?

Return Once More (The Historians #1)

by Trisha Leigh

Release Date: 09/29/15

Bloomsbury Spark

Summary from Goodreads:

If you could learn the identity of your one true love—even though you will never meet— would you?

Years have passed since refugees from a ruined earth took to space, eventually settling a new system of planets. Science has not only made the leaps necessary to allow time travel, but the process engineered a strange side effect—predicting your one true love.

If you could save your one true love from an untimely death, would you be able to resist?

Sixteen-year-old Kaia Vespasian is an apprentice to the Historians—a group charged with using time travel to document the triumphs and failures of the past—and she can’t resist a peek at her long-dead soul mate in Ancient Egypt. Before she knows it, she’s broken every rule in the book, and the consequences of getting caught could destroy more than just her new romance.

Or would you have the strength to watch him die?

But when Kaia notices a fellow classmate snooping around in a time where he doesn’t belong, she suspects he has a secret of his own—and the conspiracy she uncovers could threaten the entire universe. If her experience has taught her anything, to changing history means facing the consequences. The Historians trained her to observe and record the past, but Kaia never guessed she might have to protect it— in a race across time to save her only chance at a future.

My Thoughts:

I don’t read a lot of time travel books, but I’m glad I picked this one up. This was one of those books where you thought you knew what was happening, but then there was a twist or a turn. I loved that I didn’t know where the book was going; it kept me intrigued and made me want to read as much as I could.

I found it interesting that 17 years old you could find your one true love. It was also interesting that this one true love wasn’t only attainable. I couldn’t imagine finding out who my sole mate is only to find out he passed away years before.

I’m not a history fan by any means, but this book didn’t bore me with all of the historian references and going back in time. It actually was very interesting!

I am very glad I had a chance to read this book!

Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

6608a-review

First & Then was a very enjoyable read, but I wanted a little more from it. The good, I love Jane Austen and all the references to her and her books. I also liked Devon as a main character. She had some issues and was working through them just like all high school seniors. A lot of her problems felt real; friendship, family and relationships. At first I really wanted to see her with Cas, but as the book went on and he disappeared a little I lost my love for him. He did and said something that I just wasn’t a fan of. However, I was team Ezra, he was such a sweet guy and I wish I had read more about him. In the beginning he was there, but not a lot. That was just one thing that was missing for me, more Ezra. I also, wanted more from the secondary characters; I would have loved to see more of a friendship with Lindsey, and Jordan (I can see him having a book). Foster was adorable and such a great character. There was so much too him and he was going through a lot. Which leads me to the next thing that was missing, there were so many great issues spoken about in this book, but not fully explored. I would have seen a little more with these issues.

Again, this was an enjoyable book with great characters that YA fans will enjoy reading!

Synopsis:

The first sixteen years of Arabella Penthallow’s life have been a lie…
In a world where deception is the key to survival, Ara has kept up the charade of being a perfect Legion Leader’s daughter. But a darkness stirs, and she discovers she is Touched, a mortal gifted by the Gods. The Touched are as rare as they are feared, and Ara is forced to leave Union City for neighboring Midnight City to protect herself and those she loves, leaving Tove Thorn, the boy who has always known her heart, behind.
Carter Decker has vowed to burn Union City to the ground…
Midnight City’s cocky, infamous bad boy always gets what he wants, and he wants Union City to pay for burning his mother alive because she was Touched. When Carter meets Ara, she is everything he’s been taught to hate. Then he learns she is Touched—just like him—he isn’t sure who he hates more…the Touched girl whose father killed his mother, or himself for being tempted by someone he’s sworn to kill.
They are told they’re fated to be soul mates…and they each wish the other never existed.
When Midnight City is attacked by Union City, Carter and Arabella will do the unthinkable…even if it means falling for the enemy. The truth lies in Arabella’s home nation, and Tove is waiting. Soul mates or not, he has an advantage Carter doesn’t, fated souls be damned.
War is coming…and Ara is the prize.

After reading The Touched, I looked to see what else Jennifer Wieser wrote and to my surprise, this was her debut novel. I cannot believe this is and what a fantastic debut it was!!! Ms. Wieser did a great job building a new world filled with so many things. All the characters in the novel were great and I like that there were a couple of POVs, this made me understand this new world better. It also makes me a little torn about whom I wanted Ara to be with, Carter or Tove. I think I may like Carter a little better, but I’m still torn.

Ms. Wiester wrote in a way that I could imagine each and ever scene and every little bit of magic. Making this very enjoyable to read and boy am I itching to read the next one! What a cliffhanger!!

If you are a fan of YA Paranormal Dystopian then this is a book worth checking out!!!

I can’t help the way my eyes take inventory of her. I can’t stop staring at her, almost as if I need to memorize every inch of her, as if looking away from her soft, raven-black curls, emerald-green eyes, and dark, blood-red stained lips will physically kill me. My tongue flicks over my own dry lips and I find myself wondering if hers taste like cherries. Or apples. That’s what that red of hers reminds me of.

The sky-blue corset she wears over an ivory lace shirt fits tightly around her slender curves. My hands itch to touch her. To reach out and run my hands through her hair. She’s too beautiful to be

real, yet here she is. In front of me. She holds no smile toward me. No outreached hand to shake my own as Father introduces her. Her eyes narrow as she continues to stare intently at me.

Her arms cross tightly across her chest, clearly unimpressed by what she sees.

You hate her. Balling my fists at my side, I try to rein in the way she has begun to unnerve me. The way I want to run my hands down her, to watch her close her eyes and whisper my name. Chills race down my spine. My body is responding to her in ways I’ve never responded to any chick before.

Father stands with pride as he nods toward me, waiting for me to welcome Rob’s new recruit. But I don’t. I stare just as hard at her as she does at me, finally feeling the narrow of my eyes. Why the hell do I want her? Why the hell am I feeling anything for her?

Father frowns when I don’t offer my hand to her. “Arabella will be staying with us for the next few months,” Father says. But what he leaves out is, “She’ll be staying indefinitely when you realize that she’s your fated, Carter.”

But she won’t. I’ll see to that. I may like her appearance, and her body might cause me to think

and feel things, but it doesn’t change the fact that I vowed to make and keep her and Union City as my enemy. I will end her. Make no mistake about that. She will burn for the crimes her father committed against my mother.

Annie and Hank
have created a perfect life in Laguna Beach but when a dark secret is revealed,
will their marriage survive?

In high school, Annie Johns was the calm,
supportive sidekick to the rest of the tumultuous female stars of the hit
reality TV show, Laguna Nights. Today, she’s living the happy life as a mom
that she predicted on the show long ago. There’s only one problem: the secret
from her past that haunts her most nights, a secret that if revealed could ruin
everything she shares with her husband, Hank, the man who saved her from the
heartache.

MY THOUGHTS

Laguna Heights is the second book of the Laguna Beach Series. Being that I went through high school/college watching a like the one the book is based on, I find it quite interesting. These books are based on the characters after the show. Annie was on the show, but what happened after the show changed her.

This is a short book and has so much potential to be a longer book with a lot more to it. Once the story was over I was left with wanting to know more of Annie’s story. The ending came so abruptly. I did love it however and can not wait for the next one!

BLURB:

Andrew Harper grew up in a house marked by tragedy. His older brother Owen did his best to shelter him, but you can only be protected from life’s pain for so long. Eventually, you end up just feeling numb…and isolated.

Loneliness was the one constant in Andrew’s life. Until one girl, met by chance in a high school hallway, changed everything. Emma Burke was a mystery and all that was beautiful in this world, the only air Andrew ever wanted to breathe. She took the lonely away, and filled it with hope and color, and Andrew would do anything to keep her safe, happy and whole.

But sometimes, what feels good and right is what ends up hurting us the most. And when Andrew and Emma are faced with an impossible decision, Andrew is tested to see just how far he’s willing to go for the girl who owns his heart.

Cuts are deep.

Scars are left behind.

And revenge beckons.

When Andrew finally gets his chance, in college, five years after his first love broke him completely, he finds out old feelings don’t really disappear just because you say you hate someone. The more he tries to avenge all that he believes he lost, the more he uncovers the real story of what happened years before.

Love is wicked. But a restless heart is never satisfied beating on its own. Can Andrew and Emma make it right before it’s too late, or will the ties that bind them now destroy their only chance at a future?

My Thoughts:

Every time I receive a book from Ginger Scott, I know my night will consist of only her novel. I also know that I will probably make sure I have enough time to read the book in one sitting, she’s that kind of writer. I absolutely adored all her books so far (yes, I have read them all) and Wicked Restless has been added into that group.

Wicked Restless follows Owen’s brother Andrew. That sweet boy we met in the first book now has his own story, and I must say his story in just as intense. I will try my best to tell his story with out giving it away!

After everything Andrew has gone threw while growing up, he finally seems to have things together and that when he meets Emma. At first everything seems perfect, but sometimes all good things come to an end. While Reading I couldn’t believe what Andrew did, my heart broke for him because I knew it wouldn’t end well. Then Andrew and Emma are reunited and it wasn’t a happy reunion. I couldn’t believe what kind of person Ander turned into. What he did with Lindsey, I was not a fan of.

There were times during this book I was happy for Andrew and Emma and there were plenty of times I was annoyed at them and just wanted them to sit down and talk.

Ms. Scott managed to write yet another book to make me feel things and she seems to have me always feel sorry for the male characters, my heart broke for Andrew. I suggest everyone to take the time and read this one, you wont be disappointed.

The truth will set you free. Only for Sadie, her truth will test the very fabric of her reality. She must silence the threat, or risk losing everything and everyone she loves.

6608a-review

After reading the first two books in the Broken Bond Series, I was convinced the series couldn’t get any better. I have never been so happy to be wrong! Trisha Wolfe has a way with her writing that has me devouring each and every book she writes. I was able to read this one rather quickly, the only thing getting in my way was my full time job!

To be honest it is a bit hard to write this review, I have so much to say and not sure how to say it all with out give anything away.

Book three picks up right where book two leaves off. All our favorite characters and more are in this story as well. When I thought I couldn’t love Sadie and Colton even more by the end of this book, I did. They had such great chemistry, both with a dark past, but coping with it together. At the start of the story I was convinced I knew who the UNSUB was by the end I pleasantly surprised! Never have a read a book where I couldn’t guess who the “bad guy” was.

I really suggest everyone picking up this series! If you like a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this is the one for you!

Book Review: Fates Divided by Jules Barnard

Published October 16, 2015 by adventuresinbooklandblog

Fates Divided (Halven Rising #1)
by Jules Barnard
Release Date: August 31st 2015
Genre: New Adult, Urban Fantasy, Fantasy
Rate: 4 Stars
Synopsis:
Elena Rosales has busted her ass to get into a good college. She’s the only one in her family ever to attend, and expectations are high. No pressure. But Elena’s got this one in the bag, because she’s as dependable as the molecules she studies, as reliable as the chemical reactions that comfort her in their predictability. Until they don’t.
Elena has always wondered why her mother abandoned her on her first birthday. It’s not until she turns eighteen and her chemistry experiments go berserk that she learns the truth: Her mother wasn’t human, and the Fae are willing to harm those Elena loves if she doesn’t use her power over the elements to cure them of a deadly disease.
Derek, Elena’s brooding neighbor, isn’t the friendliest guy, but he has access to an off-hours lab and is willing to help Elena create the antivirus. He has his own secrets to keep, and this business Elena is mixed up in could blow his cover. But when Elena and Derek get together, more than chemicals spark fire—and they soon discover just how complicated attraction can get when they find themselves on the other side of the portal, fighting for survival. Lives collide, and allegiance and love are tested, in Fates Divided.
—–

In the Halven Rising Series, love and ancient allegiances are threatened when the worlds of Fae and Halven collide. Each Halven Rising novel features a different couple and may be read as a standalone, but an overreaching story arc connects the books, so it’s fun to read them in order.

The cover of this book drew my attention at first and then I read the book synopsis and I thought it would be something that would interest me. I haven’t been reading a lot of science fiction books and it was nice to read one again. Like all YA books, this was a very easy read and I was able to read it in a couple of days. Fae’s are new to me and I am certain that I haven’t read a book about them before; it’s always interesting to see a magical world.

There’s a lot going on in this book from Elena learning she has powers and learning that her mother is Fae to the whole Fae race being killed off by a disease. The first half was a little slow moving, but as the book went on the better it got! Derek and Elena were great characters and I would love to read more about them.

I can not wair for the next book to come out to see what is going to happen to Elena, Derek and the rest of the Fae race!

Before turning to storytelling, Jules earned a master’s degree in public health and spent many an hour running statistical analysis–until she realized her favorite part of the job was writing reports. She decided to cut out the math and add in some hot guys, and so began her career as a novelist.

Jules is a Northern California native living on the coast with her husband and two children. She has no impulse control around cupcakes and credits herself with the ability to read while running on the treadmill or burning dinner.
