Summary from Goodreads:

Onnaleigh Moore is part of a plan—and it isn’t hers. When her brother dies in a car accident, Onna is desperate to preserve the tatters of her family. Any hope of finding normalcy vanishes when her mother runs off and her dad turns to booze to numb his pain. Onna’s grief is crippling, but the boy who showed up just when she needed him is helping her cope. Everett’s presence is comforting, though he knows things—Onna’s name just before they met, where she lives, and sometimes he comments on thoughts she doesn’t say aloud. She pegs him for a stalker, or maybe psychic, but the truth is deadlier than she imagines. As their feelings for one another deepen, Everett confesses a horrifying secret: Onna’s brother is only the beginning of the plan, and some fates are worse than death.

Excerpt:

An eerie, buzzing noise startled both women. Everyone in the restaurant stopped speaking, and the waiters huddled together near the entrance. One of the chefs came out of the kitchen and headed toward the waiters. The noise continued for almost a minute and then abruptly stopped.

“The aliens have landed,” the man joked at the next table.

Everyone laughed and resumed speaking. The chef went back to the kitchen, and the waiters resumed their tasks.

“Wonder what that was?” Barbara’s voice quavered.

But Belinda wasn’t listening. Her right hand trembled as she glanced down at her phone. She flashed the phone at Barbara, who gasped when she read the short message: Mermaid arriving in Carden. Enroute from Toronto.

Belinda grabbed Barbara’s arm. “You must contact Graham at once. Before she arrives.”

“He’s somewhere on the highway between Windsor and here. I can’t tell him everything over the phone.” Barbara thought back to the previous morning when she had awakened to the tickle of a beautiful red rose. As soon as she opened her eyes, Graham kissed her passionately and apologized once more for leaving her with the last-minute details of the engagement party, but it couldn’t be helped. One of his clients had expressed interest in a series of paintings, and Graham was anxious to close the sale.

You must tell him before she arrives,” Belinda said sharply.

“Who is she?”

“She could be anyone from the tribe, anyone at all.” Belinda threw the phone into her purse.

“That strange sound came from your phone?”

“That’s how the underwater Kingdom communicates with me.” Belinda drummed her fingers on the table. “Usually, I get more details, but—”

Barbara wondered about the phone that could easily have been purchased on Earth. Like all other digital devices from the mermaid Kingdom, it did not stand out in any way. She wondered if any other ex-mermaids had such a phone but quickly dismissed that possibility. Unlike Belinda, they were not Bellas so it wouldn’t make sense to entrust them with a direct link to the Kingdom.

“It may not be so bad,” Barbara said. “It might be nice to have another ex-mermaid in our midst.”

“You’re making the assumption that she will be pleased to see you.”

The attraction between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. Talk about the perfect summer fling…
Lucy isn’t what she seems. She doesn’t live next door—she’s the girl who’s been hired to house sit for the summer while the family goes on a worldwide vacation. If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can go along with that. After the summer, she’ll never see him again.
They don’t count on running into each other at college. Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s scared he feels the same. Will he still care about her when he discovers the truth?
Review:

I absolutely love The Rules Series!! I thought that I couldn’t love a story more than Fair Game, but I like I do. Ms. Murphy has written a story that grabbed my attention from the very first page (I love books like that). I like that book can be read as a stand-alone and we get to see our favorite characters in each book.

Gabe or Mr. GQ was such a great character; he is definitely book boyfriend material! I love how he let Lucy know what he wanted and didn’t play games with her. Of course sometimes she didn’t like what he said, but at least he didn’t keep anything from her. Then there’s Lucy I think she was also extremely likable. She has sassy and realistic. Although, the whole time I wanted her to tell Gabe that she was just house sitting. Lucy also fit in with Gabe’s friends very well.

This story was told in a duel POV and I love when that is done. I like knowing what both the hero and the heroine are thinking.

I can’t not wait to read Tristan’s story next! I know it’s going to be an interesting one since he’s having a hard time letting go of “the rules”. Lets see what kind of girl grabs his attention!!!

Meet the crew!

Leah Godfrey has almost everything she could ask for—
She’s got an interior design business with an A-list clientele, a weekly spot on a national morning TV show, and a great daughter—but she doesn’t have a date for her twentieth high school reunion. It wouldn’t be a big deal, but her ex-husband was her high school sweetheart, and now he’s married to the slut Leah caught him with in bed. She won’t let the biggest failure of her life overshadow her success.

When her best friend suggests she hire a date, Leah thinks the idea is scandalous. But for one weekend, she wants to forget her mistakes and pretend she has everything her ex took away from her.
Jagger Holiday makes women’s fantasies come true—
But working as a male escort leaves him feeling empty. He turns to photography to fill the void. When Jagger gets a call from a lonely single mom who needs the same thing he does, he wants more. He wants her.

Leah and Jagger have no problem convincing everyone at the reunion they’re together. She should’ve known better than to think there’d be no strings attached.

After all, he’s a professional.

6608a-review

When I was approached about reading Kristen’s new book of course I said yes! I love every book that I have read by her so far, and No String’s Attached was no exception.

I don’t know how Kristen does it she is able to write a character that’s relatable even though I’m not a single mother. I think that maybe its because the struggles that Leah faced were realistic, body issues, relating to her teenage daughter and trying to find love while working on her career. Then there was Jagger, I mean who wouldn’t want to spend the weekend with a guy like him. Bonus points for him being a photographer! The duel POV was perfect as well, I also like reading both sides of the story and what’s going on in both their minds.

I love when an author can write a story that pulls me in from the very first page and holds by attention to the very last and Kristen has done this.

Well after writing this review I either have to read this book again or I need to read other one of Kristen’s book. I recommend that you do the same as well!

b2413-synopsis

Everything about Jonah is unexpected. On the first day of school, he sits next to April, when he could have chosen to sit with the popular girl. He turns down an invitation to join the school team and declares he’d rather paint. He encourages April to develop her musical talent and shrugs off the bullies that torment them.

April isn’t surprised to find herself falling for Jonah. The unexpected part is when he falls for her too.

But the giddy happiness of their first romance begins to fade when Jonah’s unpredictability begins to take a darker turn. April understands that her boyfriend is haunted by a painful memory, but his sudden mood swings worry her. She can’t explain his growing fear of cellphones, electric keyboards, and of sounds that no one else can hear. Still, no matter what happens, April is sure that she’ll always stand by him.

Until Jonah finally breaks and is committed to a psychiatric ward.

Until schizophrenia changes everything.

Though everyone urges her to let him go, April stays true to Jonah. But as the boy she adores begins to disappear in front of her, she has to face her worst fear: that her love may not be enough to save him.

6608a-review

Well, I just finished another completely powerful YA book. This time it involved a mental illness, schizophrenia. The story is told from of POV of April, a high school sophomore, who has started dating the new boy, Jonah. Although, this book is about the mental illness, it also touches upon other topics like bullying, family, friendship and love.

I am going to say that the author did a great job showcasing the illness. I do indeed know someone who is schizophrenic and I have seen first hand how medication can affect the person. I have also seen that when certain medication is adjusted how the person could revert back to their old self. I also like the fact that Ms. Scheier had April attend some therapy session, this why I was able to see what Jonah was thinking and how dealt with the voices that he was hearing. It was also interesting to gear what they said.

I enjoyed April a lot as a character; she had such an amazing heart and loved Jonah so much. She went through a lot in this story and I felt like she grew a lot at the same time. She was able to form such amazing relationships and worked through many ups and down.

I have to say I did not expect that ending and I think I am satisfied about how it ended. I completely recommend this book to readers who like to read stories with something to it. If you are looking for a lighthearted read, this is not the book for you, but I do suggest everyone to read it.

b2413-synopsis

When Jordyn Michaelson’s autistic brother joins her at her elite school, she’s determined not to let anyone know they’re related. Even if that means closing herself off to all her closest friends, including charming football stud Alex Colby. But despite her best intentions, she just can’t shake the memory of kissing Alex last summer, and the desire to do it again. Can Jordyn find the courage to tell Alex how she really feels—and the truth about her family—before he slips away forever?

6608a-review

A lot of the YA books I have been reading had completely pulled at my heartstrings, and this book was no different. I got completely lost in the book, and it takes a lot to do that while I read.

I will begin by talk about the characters, Jordyn in struggling with keeping her family life secret from the rest of her classmates. She has been hurt before by classmates and doesn’t want that to happen again. Jordyn is also struggling with loving Phillip but also the attention he gets taken away from her. I can see how that would be something hard to cope with, we see a glimpse of it early on when she goes to dinner with Phillip and her mom. Then there’s Alex, he was your stereotypical popular boy, he was caring and such a sweetheart. I mean what high schooler opens a park for disabled children. It completely makes me want to do something productive like that. I was rooting for Alex and Jordyn to get together the whole book their friendship was sweet. Then there was Phillip! How could you not adore him and his ability to quote SpongeBob at any given moment.

I felt as though Ms. Cozzo did a great job writing a story about a family dealing with one of their members having a disability like Phillip’s. It was also interesting reading the story from their perspective and not the perspective of the child who id suffering. It was interesting to see the feelings both Jordyn and her mom (through conversations with Jordyn) felt toward Phillip. I mean Jordyn’s one speech brought tears to my eyes.

Now that I know if I write anymore, I will give away the whole story, I will leave you with this. I think this story was written in a very tasteful way and I would recommend this to both young readers and adults to read.

Although Tristan agrees to a marriage of convenience, he is confident he can show Lemon they are right for each other. But can Lemon trust him with her heart, or will their past be too much to overcome?

My Thoughts:

I absolutely love this series, and am so excited that there are so many Larson brothers because it means that the series will keep continuing. Each book in the series gets better and better and I think that’s all because of Ms. Valentine’s writing. I think this installment was one of the sweetest stories in the series and one I have been waiting for a while. I absolutely loved getting little glimpses of their story from the previous books.

Both Lemon and Tristan were so likable and I just couldn’t understand Apple’s issue with them, but in the end it all made sense. Lemon and Tristan had amazing chemistry and loved loved loved their banter, it had me laughing many times while reading. Of course some of our favorite characters were back in the story and I like getting little updates one them.

I can not wait to read Austin’s story, I’m not sad I have to wait so long!!!

Summary from Goodreads:
Ward de’Ath should be dead by now. Instead, he’s chasing after a soul-eating creature—that he unleashed— and is bent on stopping her before she slaughters more innocents. Fortunately, Celia Carlyle remains by his side, a nobleman’s gorgeous and deadly daughter, who is…well, dead.

Celia claims she’ll champion Ward wherever he goes, even when she thinks his quest is hopeless. He can only hope her pledge comes from her heart, and not because she’s bound to him through his magic.

When they enter Dulthyne, they stumble upon a dark power that threatens the entire town. Ward, with his unreliable necromancy, is determined to help but finds himself ensnared in the lure of white-hot magic…blood magic he struggles to resist. But if Celia’s love is a lie, it might just doom his soul to the dark arts forever.

About the Author
I have always been drawn to story telling. In fact, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t telling a story in my head or on paper. In grade school, we had journal writing time which I turned into story telling time, weaving tales of magic and adventure that mimicked the fairy tales and myths that I loved to read. It was there, with the help of two very special teachers, that I nurtured this love and started my journey as a writer.
I write fantasy, paranormal romance, and everything in between, seasoned with a good dash of adventure and mystery. Join me on my tales of magic, adventure, and romance.
