What took Oscar from nobody to somebody? From catching the bus to flying in private jets? From sleeping in a small stuffy bedroom in his family home to living in luxury hotels in New York and London? From having a-pay-as-you-go phone to having girls screaming his name wherever he goes?

Simple. His voice.

You don’t know him but you know him. Oscar is the most famous singer in the world.

In this special edition of 15 minutes, you’ll read a unique account of Oscar’s life during his recent American tour. This is as personal as it gets: you’ll discover what it’s like to travel with Oscar. You’ll understand how it feels to get dressed with him in his hotel dressing room and to fall asleep with him at night. You’ll discover what it’s like to meet the Queen of England, Simon Cowell, Justin Bieber, The Wanted, and many more. You’ll discover how amazing life is inside the world of Oscar. Read it now!

We were introduced to the Queen quite suddenly. None of us had time to even look in a mirror to fix our hair. We met her in a small, cosy room filled with vases of white roses. She was sitting in a comfy red chair and there was a corgi asleep at her feet. She looked just like she did on stamps. She was quite small, and her hair was immaculately white. She was wearing a cream coloured skirt and matching top with gold buttons; the kind of outfit only The Queen can look good in. When we entered the room she smiled and stood up

“Pleased to meet you, you must be Oscar,” she said, shaking Tom’s hand (her voice was exactly as it sounds on TV).

Tom looked embarrassed. “That’s Oscar,” he mumbled, pointing at me.

“Ah. Of course. What a tribute you are to our nation…” she said, shaking my hand, then she moved on to Elliot, and started asking him questions.

I think she thought we were a boy band. She asked Elliot where he was from. When he told her London, she seemed surprised, and asked him what religion he was. He said he didn’t know. Then she moved on and started asking Abe Lincoln about his favourite songs. Abe Lincoln told her, then she moved swiftly on to ask Winston some questions, and that’s when something unbelievable happened (and thank god I was looking at Winston when it happened because it’s an image I’ll never forget). The Queen had just asked him what his middle name was. Winston was thinking of the answer, then his face went pale white and he leaned sideways and vomited into a giant Chinese vase. It all happened in slow motion. Elliot, Tom, Abe Lincoln and me gasped. The Queen shrieked, and her corgi woke up and started barking. A guard ran over and took the Queen by the arm and rushed her out of the room. Winston kept saying sorry, but it was no use. We were chased out by a furious Palace guard.

Release Day: Aimee and the Heartthrob by Ophelia London

Published April 13, 2015 by adventuresinbooklandblog
We’re celebrating the release of Aimee and the Heartthrob by Ophelia London!
Title: AIMEE AND THE HEARTTHROB by Ophelia London
Age group: Young Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled
Scheduled to release: April 14, 2015

He never noticed her before, but now she’s all he can see…

Miles Carlisle is every teen girl’s fantasy. His rugged good looks and exotic British accent have helped catapult his boy band, Seconds to Juliet, to super-stardom. But after two disastrous and very public breakups, Miles isn’t interested in dating just any girl; he wants The One. And the only girl he’s interested in is not only his best friend’s little sister―and off-limits―but won’t even give him the time of day…

As a kid, Aimee Bingham had a huge thing for Miles…until he made fun of her for always tagging along. Now that she’s outgrown both him and her pigtails. the prospect of spending two weeks on tour with the childhood crush who broke her heart isn’t exactly enticing. Except now Miles seems interested. Very interested. And no matter how hard Aimee tries to resist him, her crush is definitely making a comeback.

But everyone knows that falling for a heartthrob is a backstage pass to heartbreak…

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed every single book that I have read by Ophelia London, and Aimee and the Heartthrob was no different. I tend to stay away from Rock Star romances, but there a few authors that I can not pass up reading one of their novels, and Ms. London is one of them.

Aimee has been sent to go one tour with the band Seconds to Juliet, since her brother is working as a roadie intern on tour. Who wouldn’t want to be on tour with such a famous band? But there is one massive problem with this, Miles, her ex crush, is in the band. Now she has to try to spend the next 3 weeks with the boy she hates.

Aimee was a very likable character, I think every teenage girl knows how it feels to have a crush on a boy, and get completely heartbroken. I think every girl at one time in her life she has been completely obsessed with a guy in a boy band. Everything that she did, I think I would have done too. I also really liked Miles and after everything was straightened out, I liked him even more!!

This novel was for a younger audience and I think that Ms. London did a great job writing a book that both young and older readers could enjoy. I also think it was pretty age appropriate for YA readers.

Book Review: Kissing Ted Callahan (and other boys) by Amy Spalding

Published April 12, 2015 by adventuresinbooklandblog

Title- Kiss Ted Callahan (and other boys)

Author- Amy Spalding

Publisher- Poppy

Release Date- April 7, 2015

After catching their bandmates in a compromising position, sixteen-year-old Los Angelenos Riley and Reid become painfully aware of the romance missing from their own lives. And so a pact is formed: they’ll both try to make something happen with their respective crushes and document the experiences in a shared notebook.

While Reid struggles with the moral dilemma of adopting a dog to win over someone’s heart, Riley tries to make progress with Ted Callahan, who she’s been obsessed with forever-His floppy hair! His undeniable intelligence! But suddenly cute guys are popping up everywhere. How did she never notice them before?! With their love lives going from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye, Riley and Reid realize the results of their pact may be more than they bargained for

Riley and Reid are in a band with their friends Nathan and Lucy, but when Nathan and Lucy start to date, they feel left out. This is when they deicide to form a pact. This pact allows them to go after their crushes and then they document what happens with them.

This story was more about friendship, then anything else. Riley and Reid bond over sharing what is happening in their relationships. Then there is Riley and Lucy, Riley is upset that Lucy never told her what was going on with Nathan, instead she walked in on them. She now views her relationship in a different light and starts to drift away from her. The relationships Riley had in this book were more background and I didn’t see any connection between any of them and of course she doesn’t end up with my favorite.

I like that the main characters were the most popular people in school and their love interests weren’t either. I think many young reads could relate to them more. Riley was a bit awkard and I think many girls around her age are too.

Due to the content of this book, I think that it’s more for young readers. Maybe middle school. I kept forgetting these characters were in high school; it seemed more like they were in middle school. Some reminders that they weren’t in middle school were; drinking, driving around, and getting fake ids.

Book Review: Eire’s Devil King by Sandi Layne

Published April 9, 2015 by adventuresinbooklandblog

Title– Eire’s Devil King

Author- Sandi Layne

Publisher– The Writer’s Coffee Shop

Release Date– April 2, 2015

A man of ability and ambition, Tuirgeis Erlingrson has nurtured the desire to carve a place of leadership for himself on the Green Island, Éire, that he has raided multiple times. After the death of his wife in Nordweg, he takes his surviving son to Éire. Having connections with his adopted brother, Cowan, and Agnarr, his former countryman, Tuirgeis feels he has the support he needs to make his claims strong.

Agnarr is torn. His promise to Aislinn to remain with her on Éire is still in force, and he resists Tuirgeis’s requests to join the conquering forces from Nordweg. He desires above all things to maintain a safe home for his wife and children in Dal Fíatach. Charis encourages Cowan to do the same, though this makes for tense moments between them.

After initial disastrous attempts to achieve his ambition, Tuirgeis comes to learn that there is more to claiming a kingship than merely overpowering the locals. Tuirgeis finds himself at odds with the very people he had hoped would reinforce him. In addition, he wants to establish his father-line. He has one son; he wants another to be born of Éire. Will the woman of his choice accept and support him?

At length, Agnarr and Aislinn—though she is heavy with child—sail with Cowan and Charis to join Tuirgeis as he battles over one final summer to attain the High Kingship of the island.

Tuirgeis knows he doesn’t have long to make his claims; the Danes are coming in greater numbers than before. As he wins men of Éire to his cause, he has to maintain the relationships he has already fostered with Agnarr and Cowan. Charis finds that her Otherworldly gifts are needed by a man she considers her enemy.

Eire’s is the last book in the Eire Viking Trilogy. I am beyond sad that this series is has come to an end, but I like the fact that this series opened me up to a new genre and type of character to enjoy. I never read Viking stories before this and I now cannot wait to read more about them and may even try to find a movie about them.

The third book brings us back to Green Isle where all of our favorite characters are living. I love seeing how life has turned out for Cowen, Charis, Aislinn, and Angarr, as a whole their lives have been peaceful and full of love. Then Cowan’s adoptive brother, Tuirgeis, come back and wishes to come and settle on the island, but his intention are not to settle down and farm, I feel that he still wants riches!

I do really enjoy that even though this book is focused around Tuirgeis, but since the POV changes through out the book, we still get to hear from our favorite characters. I think this was such a great way to end this series and I will be recommending it to many people.

One of the absolute craziest things about writing Loving Dallas was the fact that it was like having two male leads. Dallas himself says it best in the chapter where he explains to Robyn about “Person Dallas” and “Performer Dallas.”  The recording label he is hired onto quickly turns charming Dallas Lark from Amarillo (think: country cutie Easton Corbin) into the sexy, sharp-tongued Dallas Walker, a drifter with a shady past (think: country music outlaw Eric Church). I thought it might be fun to compare the two sides of my guy side by side!

First up, even though he’s really just one man, Dallas has a completely different style when he’s on stage. If you were to see the laid back crooner around town, he’d be clad in a well worn-in flannel button down and his favorite pair of jeans and cowboy boots. There will likely be trucker hat providing some shade over his baby blues. However, stop in to see a show and you might not recognize him! On stage Dallas Walker rocks an edgier look including Aviators, leather jackets, and biker boots. Vintage rock band tees are a staple in the wardrobe of this version of Dallas!

Dallas Lark is a caring and somewhat overprotective big brother to his little sister, Dixie. He believes women should be treated like the ladies that they are with the respect they deserve. He says Grace and he says ma’am, y’all!

Dallas Walker on the other hand is a little rougher around the edge and if you get too close you might enter a danger zone where you end up in scandalous tabloid photos alongside country music’s newest bad boy!

Dallas Lark will forever carry a torch for his high school sweetheart, Robyn Breeland. She is and will always be his muse.

Dallas Walker can’t be tamed or tied down and women traipse in and out of his life quicker than Billboard chart toppers change places! He does certainly pay a lot of attention to one special lady that has yet to be identified by media sources. Rumor has it she’s the one that got away!

Which version of Dallas would be your favorite kind of book boyfriend? Decide for yourself on 6.16.15 when LOVING DALLAS GOES LIVE!

Excerpt from Loving Dallas:

“I’m still me,” he’d said before falling asleep.

I’d been about to snuggle down into that blissful murkiness of sleepy time when he’d said it.

No matter how much he’d changed, Dallas was still Dallas. And maybe I had a college degree and a big-girl job, but I was still the same girl he couldn’t forgive. I’d been an idiot, pushed him away so that he wouldn’t let my mom’s illness stop him from chasing his dreams. By the time I realized how unfair it was and how much I needed him, the damage was done and Dallas Lark had moved on.

I was the one who’d needed space, but Dallas ended up being the one to walk away for good.

Forget being on the same page; Dallas and I had been reading entirely different books when it came to our relationship. In mine, there was a happily ever after that involved making a life together. He wasn’t just in my story—he was my story. In his I was merely a chapter.

I’m still me.

I wanted to smack myself. Hard. Of course he was still him. And he’d still walk away, dragging my battered heart behind him while I

watched him leave. I’d hurt him, deeply. And I’d live with that regret for the rest of my life. He’d still be the guy who chose music over me, over us. He had even more reason to now that he was on this tour.

I waited there in his arms, forcing my steel walls back up between us while he drifted into unconsciousness. Once his breathing was deep and the light rumble of a snore settled into a steady rhythm, I slipped out of his bed and gathered my things as quietly as I could. Dressing quickly, I watched him, memorizing that peaceful look on his handsome face and promising myself this was a one-time thing. I wasn’t going to obsess over it. It was a life experience, one I didn’t regret but knew I’d be crazy to repeat.

I chanced one last look as I left, before I shut the door completely. The light from the hotel hallway sliced across him and he looked so . . . alone.

I closed the door and told myself this was for the best. What would having breakfast together or sharing a cab to the airport change? Nothing, that’s what.

This time, I’d been the one to leave. For the sake of my sanity and my heart, I could never fall into bed with Dallas Lark again.

Book Review: Eire’s Viking by Sandi Layne

Published April 7, 2015 by adventuresinbooklandblog

Title– Eire’s Viking

Author– Sandi Layne

Publisher– The Writer’s Coffee Shop

Book Summery:

Beginning ten years after the end of Éire’s Captive Moon, this is the story of how Agnarr Halvardson returns to Éire with the intention of settling there, marrying, and siring sons.

It is also the story of Aislinn, who was a child in Ragor when the Northmen raided eleven summers prior but is now a working physician in her own right. She spent a year in Bangor Monastery and became a Christian before Cowan and Charis returned to take the children to Cowan’s village in the kingdom of Dál Fiatach and returns there a decade later to finish learning all she can from the monks about their healing practices.

When Cowan brings her a patient, injured and temporarily unable to speak, she can’t help but find the strong, tall man attractive, even if such feelings unsettle her.

Although sparks fly immediately, Agnarr’s idea of wedding Aislinn—the physician who heals him when he is injured—is hampered by many factors, including language and cultural differences. There is also the matter that he is the man who kidnapped and enslaved Charis years before.

Believing strongly that God gave Agnarr to her as a patient, though, Aislinn does her best. Her knowledge of who he is wars with her unwilling attraction to him. That he makes his interest in her clear doesn’t help, as he goes so far as to seek her father’s permission to wed her. Can she forgive him for what he did to her village? Can she love him if she does? And will she be willing to accept a life at Agnarr’s side even if he does not love her?

Meanwhile, other raiders from the North come to Éire’s green coasts. Pledging his loyalty to the new king, Muiredach of Dál Fiatach, Agnarr prepares to defend his new home.

My Thoughts:

After reading Captive Moon, I could not wait to read Eire’s Moon. Again I was completely engrossed and wanted to know what was going to happen in the story. I could not out it down!!!!

This time readers get to know Angarr more, and I must say, I found compassion for him. I was completely rooting for him in this book. I completely enjoyed Charis as the main character in the first book, but I think that I enjoyed her adoptive daughter just as much as her in the second book. They are both very different women and I enjoyed learning about each of them in different ways.

I think the romance between Angarr and Aislinn is a bit odd since Angarr seemed to have feeling for her mother, but once I got pass that, I enjoyed the two of them together. He seemed to change A LOT in this book and opened himself to another women.

I really enjoy reading Ms. Layne’s world of Vikings and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book and learn more about all of my favorite characters.
